God’s Chosen Examples
“For whatever was written in earlier times was written for our instruction, so that through the perseverance and the encouragement of the Scriptures we might have hope.”
Romans 15:4 (LSB)
“Now these things happened to them as an example, and they were written for our instruction, upon whom the ends of the ages have come.”
1 Corinthians 10:11 (NASB)
I wonder if we truly value the way God has chosen to share the story of His grace and our hope.
I believe one of the threads throughout scripture is how much God understands us, mankind. He uses stories of other normal every day people to show us how we can have a relationship with Him while also being nornal, every day people.
The Bible provides many lessons in many layers. The hope of salvation is the impactful point, but that hope hinges on the love that moved God to create the world, and all of us in it, in the first place.
How are we meant to understand the love of God? God who is Spirit and reigns in the heavenly places (Eph. 1:3). We have a battle to fight (Eph. 6:10-17) and the winning side is with God. These strange ideas are hard to grasp without some help. God provides the help by showing us how He has worked in the lives of men since the Creation of all things.
So, I want to invite you to join me in a new journey.
Several years ago, (wow, actually, NINE years ago), I first started the study of women from Scripture that came to be known as 31 Days of Women from Scripture. That study looked at some of the most commonly studied women and sought to see their stories as relatable. To see them as women like each one of us.
This year we will work to bring the men of the Bible into the conversation. I hope to do this in a variety of ways.
The Diligent Woman Podcast Season 5 will begin March 13th. Each week will highlight a man or woman from scripture.
The Diligent Woman Weekly newsletter will be a study like I normally share via email with you. These will conect the dots between the men and the women when they intersect (ie, Adam and Eve, and their family).
The Diligent Life and Words on My Heart may also get new studies that can be woven in! But, we will see how far my brain energy takes me. :)
I do not plan on going over all the women we’ve talked so much about over the years, like Eve, Sarah, and Hannah. I will share those previous studies with you to add to the “timeline” of our journey. I want to make sure I spend more time on the other women who we haven’t had a chance to discuss in length, like Lots’ wife, Samson’s women, and the unnamed women in the Bible. We’ve talked about some of them before, but it has been years. Let’s see if we can’t weave our study from the tapestry of teaching God has laid out for us.
I hope you will join me on the journey. There isn’t anything you need to do, all the content will be free to The Diligent Woman subscribers. You will get emails when new studies drop and everyone is open to chatting about each study along the way.
I’m looking forward to branching out in this new way.
Enjoy!
Let me know in the comments - is there any man in particular you are interested in studying? I tend to go in Biblical chronological order (because each story builds on the last) but it isn’t a rule I HAVE to follow. Share your suggestions and let’s see what I can do to meet your interests instead of making you wait until I get to a point on the road.
So far I've received suggestions for Elijah and David. Who else would you like to hear about in the series?
