Psalm 18 in Context with Scripture Writing and Bible Marking
Could you use an infusion of comfort, feeling protected, and knowing God has you covered through tough times?
“I love you, O Jehovah, my strength. Jehovah is my rock and my fortress and my deliverer, my God, my rock, in whom I will take refuge, my shield and the horn of my salvation, my high tower.”
Psalm 18:1-2
Psalm 18 is an AMAZING place to find reminders of what ALL God is actively doing for you.
It has been a while since I’ve shared a new Scripture Writing Plan outside of the Scripture Writing Club.
As I was revisiting this plan in the Club, I wanted to share it here too.
This new plan is based on PSALM 18. You can find it here.
Instead of just writing out the whole Psalm, this plan looks at the context around the Psalm.
Psalm 18 is also provided in 2 Samuel 22. This plan allows you to see the context for David writing the Psalm.
There are not many things God repeats in their entirety in scripture. The account of Creation, the feeding of the 5000, establishing the Lord’s Supper, and Jesus’ death and resurrection - these are repeated and in places more context is added to them. Most other events in Scripture, though, are given once and then referred back to in part.
The Psalm that is called Psalm 18, however, is preserved completely in 2 Samuel 22 towards the end of David’s life in response to a specific set of circumstances.
So, this plan starts with the context. What was going on that led to David's response that is seen in Psalm 18?
The plan then ends the month with a few other references that go along with "The Lord is My Rock" theme to graft into your cross-references.
It can be very telling to see the different contexts in which God puts similar phrasing. Understanding what it means that He is our rock is developed by the variety of contexts in which it is then applied.
That is why this plan works to establish that context for Psalm 18. God thought it important enough to allow us to have it, in its entirety, twice in scripture. He always repeats things for emphasis - so spend a month learning what God emphasizes with this Psalm and the circumstances around its creation.
You will notice, I've included a second page with this plan. This page includes prompts for each week of Bible marking or cross-referencing to make your Bible a visual tool for connecting what you learn this month. Then the next time you open any of these references, you instantly have a foundation for the next level of your study! Yea!
I am also including a video (approx. 32 min) that walks through adding the Bible Marking and threading as a study component.
I hope this plan - whether you write it out or use it as a daily Bible reading plan for the month - encourages you and strengthens your faith in God, that He IS GOD and is a rewarder of those who diligently seek Him (Heb. 11:6).
